Operations Manual

Joining Rainbow Express Air

Joining REA is a simple process.  Start by reading this Manual and then fill out the application.  It is important that you know the rules and regulations for flying with the airline.  These rules will help you become aware of what is expected of you as a pilot.  Once you have read the manual and wish to join you can fill out an application here (Pilot Application).  We use a flight recording system known as VAFS (Virtual Airline Financial System) and for added realism and live ATC we fly on VATSIM.  We also have our own Teamspeak Server.  Please contact the CEO at phillip@rainbowvair.com with a password that you would like to use.  We use your first name all lowercase as your username.

Minimum Requirement and Ranks

You the applicant must be a minimum of 10 years of age or older and are willing to learn the proper techniques of flying.

ALL PILOTS & Managers (unless on LOA) must complete 3 flights per calendar month.

Must appear on Teamspeak

You Must download and install FSUIPC and VAFS in order to track and record flights.

Must download and install VATSIM.  Must fly at least 1 company flight per month on VATSIM.

You Must have a legal copy of Flight Simulator 2000, 2004 or FSX.

You Must have a valid Email address.  We can provide you with a rainbowvair.com email if you desire.

Failure to provide a proper email address will get you dismissed from the airline.

New pilots must complete one training flight within the first 14 days of their application being accepted.   You will be dismissed if you do not fly within 14 days and do not complete the required 3 flight per month.

You may not be currently employed at another Airline in any manner.  Any pilots active in any way in another airline will be immediately terminated.

As REA Paints become available you must fly in REA Colors during you company flights.  If you fly in any other Simulator besides FSX you can use whatever you can find.  If you supposed to be flying an A319 I don’t want to catch you flying a B737-700.

If you need help flying an aircraft please ask.  If you need help on VFR or IFR please let us know.

At REA we reserve the right to remove a rating or send a pilot back to training at anytime if that pilots continues to have problems with that particular aircraft.  By the time a student pilots is ready to transition from the training hub at TNCM to the main hub at KMCI.  They must be able to demonstrate at minimum a proper ILS (Instrument Landing Sequence) either manually or with use of the autopilot. There are several other approaches to be learnt such as VOR, VORDME, LOC and NDB.  These will be taught to each pilot as your flying level improves.

Checkrides

To schedule a checkride to be able to step up to the next level of aircraft please contact the CFI.  Checkrides are a learning experience.  If you need work on something we will know the area you need to work on and can help you in your areas of need..  For VFR checkrides you may be ask to perform stalls and tracking of VOR’s.  For IFR checkrides you will be ask to do a multitude of approaches and plate reading.

The reading of plates can be overwhelming but once you get the terms they become quite easy.  For a demonstration on VOR approaches and plate ready you are advised to watch the VOR approach video into TNCM located in the Flight Training area under Videos.
