Basic VFR
Patterns In this example there is an aircraft sitting on Runway 14. To fly basic VFR patterns we need to understand which way they are telling us to remain in pattern, depart from the pattern or arrive at an airport. There is an easy way to remember the patterns. If you are told to fly a right pattern all pattern turns are made to the right. If you are told to fly a left pattern all turns are made to the left. When you are flying inbound to an airport and you are told to enter the traffic pattern a certain way, lets say a Right Downwind 14. You would be flying inbound and enter the 45 degree and enter the right pattern to land on runway 14. Refer to picture at left. |
